It was a pleasure once again to serve as a certified contractor for No Roof Left Behind on May 16, 2015. Michael and Harmony Owen from the West Asheville area now have a brand new GAF – Roofing system that will provide protection for many decades! A big thank you to all of our sponsors for wanting to rally the community together around a family in need. Balken Roofing will be accepting nominations again in January 2016.
Local Roofing Contractor sponsoring No Roof Left Behind™ free roof give away for one Asheville & surrounding county homeowner in need *
Asheville, North Carolina – Our Balken Roofing team has partnered up with No Roof Left Behind once again and we are now accepting nominations until March 23, 2015 for a free roof on our website at, www.BalkenRoofing.com.
There are a few conditions for the program. Nominees must own the home they are living in and be a resident of Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, Haywood, Transylvania, or McDowell County. Also, the free roof recipient must be current on his/her mortgage payments. Our committee will review all the nominees and four will be selected as finalists.
The four finalists’ stories and photos will be displayed on our Balken Roofing’s No Roof Left Behind homepage. From April 1-April 17, 2015 the public will able to vote on the finalist they feel is most deserving. The roof winner will be revealed online on April 24, 2015 and the installation celebration will be held shortly thereafter.
Our Balken family is celebrating 3 generations in the roofing industry. “We don’t just work in Buncombe County. We live here, shop here and have raised our families here. We wanted to let the community know just how important they are to us,” says Bob Balken, president of Balken Roofing. “We have always been involved in community projects since we started our business. Giving away a free roof seemed like a logical way to do that, and this is a very creative way to get the community to join us.”
One of the most important things to our Balken Roofing family is community outreach. When a fellow contractor from Tarpon Springs, FL highlighted the No Roof Left Behind program as a way to thank communities for their support, Bob Balken knew it would be a great fit for the big hearted team at Balken Roofing. “We are just so excited about implementing a philanthropic program like this at home,” says Balken. “It is just a natural fit here in Asheville and surrounding areas. We recognize that not everyone can afford to get his or her roof replaced. But having a secure roof overhead can bring peace of mind to a family in need.”
Other local businesses are asked to show their community appreciation as well. “We think it’s a great way to rally the community together,” offers Chad Balken, residential estimator at Balken Roofing. “That’s why we’re inviting other local county businesses to show support by way of donations. You don’t have to swing a hammer or even get dirty to help out. Just give us a call and we’ll find a place for you.” Last year, we had huge support for other local businesses around the community and it was much appreciated from our Balken Roofing team and the free roof recipients.

Four Finalists Selected In Balken Roofing’s Free Roof Give-Away
Voting now open at www.noroofleftbehind.com
Asheville, North Carolina – Balken Roofing has announced four finalists that have been selected in its 1st annual No Roof Left Behind TM community program:
Alvin “Tom” Reese of Marion, nominated by Darline Atamanchuk
After using his savings/assets to pay off 10 years of his wife’s cancer treatments (she lost the battle); this legally blind diabetic man with severe heart conditions has his 37 year old daughter with Multiple Sclerosis and her 10 year old son to care for. Her condition has entered into her brain. He worked hard all his life-building the motors for NASCAR legends. All has been depleted and now living on disability. He is needing our help and a light at the end of the tunnel. Help him win the race for a new roof…PLEASE VOTE for this deserving man.
Lee Morrison & Lisa Cook of Asheville, nominated by Michael Arrendondo.
Lee and Lisa are a young married couple who purchased a house that needs to be renovated. This is a first home for the couple. Lee works for the City of Asheville, a student at Buncombe Communtiy College, and a Firefighter with Riceville Fire Department; Lisa works with the Buncombe Sheriff’s Office, where she is the PREA Coordinator. Being first time home owners, they try to make every dollar stretch, as they are currently renovating the house. I think this would be an awesome surprise, and a monetary relief, if they were selected as the deserving family of a new roof. It is my hope, as Lee and Lisa’s friend, that way they can focus on expanding their newly formed family.
Ralph Dinsmore of Asheville, nominated by Barbara Young
Ralph is a helpful and caring neighbor. He lets us know if bears are around. He replaces trash and recycles bins after pick-up. He daily checks on more than one neighbor, taking newspapers, and lending an ear to listen to their concerns. He is a Veteran of WW2 and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Everyone needs a “Ralph” as their friend and neighbor. He NEVER points out the negative in people, always finds the good! Ralph will soon celebrate his 89th Birthday.
Pat Laughter of Asheville, nominated by Jody Embler.
Pat is a very good friend of mine who took me into her home when I was without a place to stay. I stayed with her for 3 years and over the years she became like a grandmother to me. She always made sure I had something to eat. She is also very nice to her neighbors who have a child fighting cancer. She visits them frequently and takes the kids candy and goody baskets. I would love for my friend (grandmother) to be able to get a new roof. She is elderly and on fixed income and can not afford the repairs. She gave me a roof to stay under for 3 years and I hope she is able to get a new one.
One of these community members will receive a free roof – valued between $5,000 and $10,000– from Balken Roofing. The public is invited and encouraged to read the finalists’ stories and vote for their favorite at www.noroofleftbehind.com.
“We had an incredible number of wonderful nominees for our first year. The process to narrow to the final four was extremely challenging,” said Bob Balken. “Our finalists are all very deserving and we look to our community to help us pick our winner with their votes.”
